One of the reasons Saint Laurent stands out as a brand is
because of the way they are able to take classic silhouettes and pieces and
give them an edgy, rocker-chic vibe. Their show for New York Fashion Week for
the fall and winter seasons was no excuse. The brand held the classic figures
while bringing them to a whole new level.
The profiles they chose to stick with for women for the Fall
and Winter seasons mostly stemmed to the classic A-Line skirt. This was a trend
that we saw pop up this past season in the suede A-Line button up skirt. SL
took this idea and ran with it, extending the bottom to ankle length and creating
a beautiful edgy look that only they could come up with.
Another aspect that Saint Laurent played with is the idea of
unisex clothing. Their brand as a whole is known for creating pieces that could
be worn by either sex, but by dressing their male models in ensembles that
included pieces that could go in either direction really highlighted this.
Picking silk button ups and extremely fitted dress pants,
the looks could be tailored to help achieve the desired look from whatever
party, making them more feminine or masculine by the pieces the wearer chooses
to pair with it.
The main key to attaining the badass Saint Laurent look is
to pick almost minimalistic pieces and then match them with harder looking,
stand out accessories. That being said, that doesn’t mean to pick out an
excessive amount of bling or studs. More so to pick out pieces that will make a
statement and draw attention without taking the eye totally away from the base
of the look. Common accessories that were used in the show are chunky statement
belts that have a contrasting color and leather, or pleather, shin and knee
high boots.
All in all, this line definitely was not a disappointment.
It was exactly what a Saint Laurent show should be, all class with a lot of
sass.
Love,
A. xx
