As I've gotten older my makeup routine has transitioned from heavy and excessive to light and simple. I love doing my makeup but I also love sleeping and if I have to pick one over the other I will always choose the latter.
This is my everyday makeup routine and, when done efficiently, it can be completed in ten minutes or less. As you will probably be able to tell, I'm pretty brand loyal to YSL but there's so many dupes on the drugstore market that you can definitely find cheaper substitutes. Everything is also linked so you can go right to the website if you're interested in a product.
Here we go.
(P.S. I'm also listing them in the order of application)
In my opinion, a face primer is the most essential thing in a makeup routine. It will help extend the wear of your foundation and create a barrier between the makeup and your skin. If you're acne prone and tend to wear makeup almost everyday this is really important. With the primer under your foundation, it won't be able to seep into your pores which in turn helps prevent them from being clogged.
I'm not sure if the YSL one actually blurs imperfections but it doesn't have that silicone, slippery feeling that most primers have.
I know this product is probably one of the most raved ones in the history of raved products but trust me on this, it's worth the hype. Its super easy to blend in and its never cakey. It's also a cheaper alternative to the Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.
But in general, just find a foundation that meets your standards. For me, I can't have a thick liquid sitting on my face all day. I physically can't handle it. I also like when my freckles and beauty marks show through for a more natural look. So for me, Nars Sheer Glow is perfect.
Find the foundation that is perfect for you.
(Also pro tip: beauty blenders blend liquid and creme foundations like a dream)
If there's one product that you end up splurging on from this list please let it be this one. This is one of those all in one products that can be used in so many ways. It was designed as a highlighting pen, which makes it perfect for under eye concealer and highlighting different parts of the face. It also can create a beautiful nude lip when combined with regular chapstick or vaseline.
In a nutshell, this pen will work in your everyday routine one way or another and you should seriously think about investing the money into it.
(Also the packaging is just gorgeous)
Even though I use a primer under my foundation I always find its a good idea to set everything with a powder. This one by MAC is a tried and true option that I always find myself coming back to time and time again.
Technically you don't need a powder that is colored, a translucent one will do the job but it never hurts to have a little extra coverage.
Personally I love a strong, dark brow. Unfortunately, I have not been blessed with such a thing. But that's okay, because thanks to IT Cosmetics we can all pretend we have perfect Lily Collins/Cara Delevingne eyebrows. This product is literally amazing because it's not a powder or wax, it's a creme, gel stain. That means when you put it on, it's not going anywhere.
It will build your brow up and, when done correctly, look completely natural. You do have to use an extremely light hand with it and it takes some getting used to. But after you master it, I don't think you'll every want to go back to another brow product.
Basically what this is is eyeshadow primer. But the amazing thing about this is that because of the pigment it can double as a eye shadow. On days when you have little extra time you could add more actual powder eyeshadows over it to build it up or on days you're in a rush you can leave as is for just a nice wash on the lid.
Either way, you're insured that your eyeshadow and eyeliner aren't going anywhere.
I'm a massive fan of the thick cat eyeliner. My eyes are hooded though which makes liquid eyeliner a little tricky. It also can make some gel eyeliners a pain when the consistency is too smugey. This gel liner is the only one that I've found that stays where you put it all day. It's also great if you're just learning how to do a wing and don't want to have the commitment of a full on liquid liner just yet.
This is the only part of my makeup routine that changes depending on the season. During the spring I grab a coral shade, but in the winter it tends to be more plum. Pick a color that compliments your skin tone and you love.
I try to stay away from over contouring (don't even get me started on the baking trend), but a little definition never hurts. I mostly use this to hollow out my cheek bones and slim my nose down. In the summer it's a great blush and gives a beautiful over all bronze color. You can also use it as an eyeshadow to either give a wash over the entire lid, or define your crease a bit more.
Because of the matte factor Hoola has, there are so many possibilities.
Your favorite mascara is such a personal choice. I have probably tried dozens of mascaras and despite what any guy will say, they are not all created equal. This YSL one is my current favorite and i highly recommend it but honestly just use whatever one you're currently loving.
Well, that was the ten makeup products I use in the morning when I'm rushing out the door to get to class. It may seem like a lot but everything is so easy to apply and, most importantly, it all looks good when it's on.
Were there any products I didn't mention that you think should be on here?
Let me know in the comments!
I hope you guys have a great day!
Love,
A. xx
